Over the days since the posting of the Memoriam to Carl, I have been unable to find the “right” words to pay tribute---if there can be anything right about losing a dear friend and colleague.
Along with our many exchanges on PND Talk, we also communicated off-line, and talked a few times on the phone. No matter the tremendous fund-raising knowledge possessed by Carl, and his eagerness to help with any question which came along from anyone in need, all I can think about which is fitting to this sad time, is something quite far from how we all have come to know Carl.
At one particular time when we were talking on the phone, Carl had just days before became a new, utterly proud, and supremely happy father. All I can remember is that particular time, and somehow, though we both love our profession very much, and all of our prior discussions were concerning fund-raising issues, that experience, that day, with the new father filled with joy, is how I best remember and regard Carl.
