Re: Gift Acceptance Policy - including a time retriction to a gift

Posted by cvr on 12/23/2011, 9:46 pm, in reply to "Gift Acceptance Policy - including a time retriction to a gift"

You can make that restriction, but be prepared to return the gift. You can't make the restriction and then claim the right to use the gift for another research purpose. You can, however, accept the gift and make a policy "to use the gift for a similar charitable purpose." In making this restriction, you can then say that similar research has similar charitable purposes. Where you (or your board) will go astray is where you say that research of angina is no longer applicable but research of arteria sclerosis is timely and applicable. When you come to that fine a distinction, attorneys get involved. At least that how I see it.
