| Intentional Misinformation given to Grant writer

Any suggestions on how to handle misinformation intentionally given to grant writers? Example: Given a list of cap expenditures to seek funding for, then finding out after the applications go out, that they've already purchased the items? What is my responsibility to the Funders?
