| Re: Director of Philanthropy vs. Director of Development

Carol, this is an excellent question that I believe only the hiring org can answer. In my six-year experience of maintaining PND's jobs board ( http://foundationcenter.org/pnd/jobs/submit.jhtml ), I've seen lots of different stylings of job titles for the top development position at nonprofits, including, besides the ones you mentioned: Chief Philanthropy Executive Chief Philanthropy Officer Philanthropy Manager Premier Philanthropy Manager Senior Director of Philanthropy Vice President of Philanthropy Director of Philanthropy and Major Gifts Executive Director of Advancement Executive Vice President of Development Senior Development Executive Executive Director of Foundation and Fund Development Executive Director of Foundation Relations Executive Director of Development and External Relations Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Development Department Manager Fundraising Executive Director Executive Director of Fundraising Executive Director for Advancement Director, Resource Development Global Development Director Director of Funds Development And I'm sure there are more flavors!
