    Alternate Funding Sources?

Posted by Holly Hanna on 8/22/2011, 9:51 am

I am just curious to know if anyone has heard of any viable funding sources that are helpful in weak economies.

We are a United Way funded agency, but the funds we receive from this is on a decreasing spiral (UW's new priorities are in other focus areas). Additionally, with a grant success rate of 18%, we can only find enough grants to apply for to reach about 60% of our goal. Our Board's solution to a decrease in funding is to write more grants, but this is not going to work.

Therefore, I am trying to think of other viable funding sources in this economy. We already host a golf tournament and luncheon each year (which tap into the business professionals and philanthropists). We do not have any capital for social business ventures. Our current funding revenue is broken down into the following:

    Government fees and grants: 38.9%
Contributions (private grants and donations): 27%
    Program Service Fee: 17.3%
    United Way: 12.8%
    Special Events (Net): 3.6%
    Investment Income: .4%

    Any ideas?

    I appreciate it.
