For-profit use of a non-profit as their fiscal agent when grant-seeking ... Need more info on this!

    Hello,

I am currently volunteering as a grant writer for a woman who runs both a for-profit and not-for-profit after school program. I won't go into detail as to why she has not sought not-for-profit status for her for-profit venture - suffice it to say, she has what she considers to be legitimate reasons.

My question is this - where can I get more information on how to go about structuring a grant proposal on behalf of the for-profit company, which will be using the non-profit as its fiscal agent? My current limited understanding of the process is that the fiscal agent (non-profit) handles all grant funds received, but that the for-profit is the one that contacts foundations directly.

I don't want to start writing grants without a firmer grasp on this subject, as it seems like one wrong step could result in our proposals ending up in the trash ...

    Looking forward to your responses!
