    Database Screening and Prospect Research

Posted by kpstern on 6/28/2011, 11:41 am

I am working with an organization that has a relatively small donor database that has not been well tended. I have recommended that in order to proceed with building an individual donor plan, and identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts, we need to better understand their donor base from top to bottom.

I have already held a donor data "dump" with the ED, and I think I have gleaned as much information as I can from that source, which isn't very much. The organization very much wants me to oversee a professional database screening and then help them use the information to build their individual giving program.

My questions are: 1) does anyone have any experience with screening companies, i.e. Wealth Engine, Prospect Research Onlin (iWave) or Donor Trends? What is the best way to put a resource like this to work? And 2) Any other suggestions for ways to dig into this donor base and begin to build it?

    Thanks!!
