I'm very glad you raised this issue. I have this friend who belonged to this organization of upscale singles who conducted annual themed galas for a different local charity each year. After attending two of these very elaborate events, I inquired of her how much it cost her and her friends to run these things and how much she actually netted, after all the bills were paid. It turned out that the chosen charity was lucky to receive 15% of the gross! However, everyone looked great and had fun, which was the true objective of the organization anyway, and the recipients were grateful for what they did receive!
