| Re: Funders who don't like when you know who they fund

I have worked with a few foundations who wish to remain absolutely anonymous in their gifting. Always interesting because we are so conditioned to expect press releases and media exposure to some extent. If there was sensitivity during your conversation, then it would be appropriate to lay concerns to rest when applying. I would definitely refer to your conversation, thanking them for the opportunity provided to submit the request, and note your appreciation of the time and interest shown during the phone conversation regarding your organization/your proposal/your project, etc. Carefully approach the subject by stating something like: We value and uphold donor interests at all times. Therefore, if the foundation should choose to partner with us in this project, we will work closely with you regarding any announcement or printed information concerning the award. I'd like to hear what other seasoned professionals have found to be their approach with this. The one I've mentioned has always been satisfactory for the groups I've dealt with. It tells them you are aware that they don't wish broad media/written attention on this, and that you have their wishes front and center.
