| Re: What foundations fund ex-offender mentoring?

Dear Rev. Karriem, your post caught me eye and I thought to respond. I understand your dismay over fundraising for this particular population. It is very difficult, yet not impossible. You noted the Federal-red-tape, however, you must realize that the Federal Govt. is the strongest supporter of this type of effort, and has the deepest pockets devoted to this population. They currently have a very good opportunity open for application, due later this month called Second Chance Act Grants for Nonprofits. I strongly encourage you to contact a group in Billings, Montana called Team Mentoring, which like your own is a faith based group. They have received these type of grants before and may be able to provide you some insight on how they made successful application, and worked to create a successful program in tandem with church congregations providing dedicated volunteers to mentor and teach life-skills. Sometimes your best source of encouragement are those who work alongside you toward the same goal.
