Laura: It's easy to place myself in the position in which you find yourself -- and the organization. In twenty years with one organization, I can recall about three times when something somewhat similar occurred. Were it one of those times now, I would remove prospects from my files. But I would never remove donors. They chose to give initially, with the opportunity provided by the disgruntled and departed, but now they should have the opportunity to continue their support, or not, based on their degree of interest and closeness to our organization. There is no legal issue here at all. Make it the donors’ choice, not hers nor yours. But, removing the prospects does make sense if their only connection was with the lady. Otherwise, you would simply be making a “cold” solicitation on your own.
