Greetings: The good folks here on PND Talk are always eager to offer counsel to help satisfy any non-profit fund-raising-related question. However, with no such replies made to date to your October 14 post, I believe I know why you have not yet been given direction to where you could advertise for the individual you want. Speaking for myself, of course, before I can answer your question, here are a few questions of my own:

    (1) Is your company for-profit, or non-profit? As a business, there may be grants for certain media endeavors which can be researched via the Foundation Center, for starters. If you are non-profit, depending on the IRS classification, you know the possible range of sources for gifts and grants possible for carrying your mission.

    (2) Maybe a semantics issue, regarding your use of term, fundraiser, but to my way of thinking, fund-raising success does not come from an experienced fundraiser (a paid solicitor of funds), but it does come from an individual experienced in fund-raising management (one who provides the plans and tools for the volunteer leadership to raise funds). Are you seeking to hire what is nothing more than a paid solicitor?

    (3) You can find a capable and experienced grant writing professional. Are your needs thought to be mainly satisfied by awards typically made by granting foundations? The services provided by such individuals are clear and according to how the best of them perform, and where they can be found, as you can read in the following:

--- Positioning Grant Writers For Success
    http://www.raise-funds.com/040202forum.html

    (4) What follows with the fundraiser approaching individual and corporate donors? Any such approach, directly seeking donations, is best made by volunteer leaders of the organization---as I urged in No. (1) above.

    (5) Would you agree that organizing fundraising events is yet another separate and distinct endeavor from the other methods of fund-raising?

To my way of thinking toward offering my best advice, the time and effort typically expended to conceive, develop, produce and manage traditional fund-raising campaigns and funding proposals, is just about the same time needed to fully plan, organize and produce fund-raising events. I submit that this would be next to impossible for one person to take on and do each with success.

I believe the points made above are why you have not yet heard from the good and experienced people here. There are plenty of places to put your advertisement, but as the duties are outlined, chances are high there will be no takers. Worse, if there are those few willing to take on the job as you require, there is an even greater chance that the results will, at best, be greatly disappointing---and at worst, could be seriously damaging to your company.

I regret if this report is somewhat hard to accept. It was not meant to be that way. But, from considerable hard-earned experience with how volunteers and professionals best work to raise contributed funds, I believe that the duty profile of the person you are seeking is one not possible to attain, no matter where advertised.

    Best wishes,
    Tony
