Until last year, I had my own business for about twenty years and I specialized in proposal writing and research. Most of my clients were my colleagues in fund-raising. I presented myself as a professional fund-raiser who could relieve them of the burden of the laborious writing of proposals and the tedious process of research. I was very successful in filling this need as the VP in charge of fund-raising usually did not have the time to seek grants. I was then referred to other colleagues and built a very lucrative business. I want to emphasize that I did thorough research on the potential client's potential of attracting grants, and I turned down probably more than I accepted.
