I am being considered for a job in a distant and far more expensive city. I have been told by several interviewing books not to ask the salary range during the initial interviews. However, I do not want to waste their time and resources (or my own) to fly there for an interview if the salary range is too low. Is there any socially acceptable way too ask early on in the process?
