Is it possible to get grant funds for HR training?

Posted by jkb on 8/12/2009, 8:54 am

Hi guys, I work in the Foundation fundraising department of a large national nonprofit. The HR department approached me and would like to explore whether it is possible to get a grant or grants for HR-led trainings of staff. I'm meeting with them later in the week, so I don't yet have an idea of what sort of trainings they have in mind.

My question is, do foundations really grant funds for staff training? In my 3 years of experience as a grantwriter, I have written successful proposals for undesignated funding and program funding, but never for training. I am wondering whether it is a pie-in-the-sky dream of my HR department that foundations would fund them, or whether it is a viable thing.

What do you all think? If approaching foundations for staff training is a standard and viable thing to do, do you have any suggestions on how to go about it? Any keywords I should search on Foundation Center?

    Thanks!

    Jane
