Great resource on: How much, what kinds of advocacy can a nonprofit do?

The Alliance for Justice (Wash., DC) offers a free technical assistance hotline for any US nonprofit having a question about appropriate and legal methods of advocacy. Nonprofits of course can do advocacy, but there are some legal limits. The hotline is staffed by an experienced attorney and responses usually come within 48 hours on weekdays. See their web site and click the tab "For nonprofits and foundations" to access.
TIP: Groups would do well to first review their feature, "Common Questions" before contacting AfJ. If you can't find your answer there, then contact the hotline. And the Alliance has some excellent publications on the topic listed on their web site.
