    Re: Presenting grant writer services

I wonder if I should take your idea and run with it in another way. I was just thinking that maybe I should send out some brochures I have printed up and send them each with a list of potential funders like you did according to their field of interest, and include a template letter with my letterhead asking for an appointment. It might be an interesting one-two punch for potential sales. There is a web site listing all of the nonprofits in northern Indiana area, many of which are faith based.

As to your mention of AFP chapters, it brings up a question or two I've had from the beginning about fund raising in general. First, where do AFP members get their training as fund raising professionals? Not sure if I've seen that as a college course when I went to college. And I've noticed that knowledge of fund raising is enormously helpful both as an additional service with grant writing, and as background knowledge of the grant writing profession and process.

Secondly, where would I find a local chapter and how could I network with other members? I am not currently a member, but have been thinking about joining AFP for the benefit of networking and other benefits.

As to your query regarding specialization, yes. Faith Grants specializes in faith based nonprofit grants. I have a basic web site at faithgrants.com. It is a basic web template site until I can afford something better. Only the logo is original. Actually, I am also wondering how I can tap into that faith based niche. I have been given a couple of web sites to go to and send them a letter to see if they can refer me to their members if they need grant writing services. Do you think this is a good idea?
