I think your prospective client has gone a little too far. I can't say that what they are asking is unethical, but it does seem to be a breach of trust and unnecessary.
I often cite the amount raised for a specific institution in round figures (ex: $1.5 million in federal grants to benefit a substance abuse recovery facility, etc.) I have never been asked nor would I give the foundation, the date of the gift, the amount, and the beneficiary. That feels like too much information. What benefit would the prospective client gain from so much information? What purpose does having the information serve?
