Public Charity grants to faculty - HELP

Posted by ebailey on 5/27/2009, 2:43 pm

What restrictions are there on having a public charity (under 170(b)(1)(A)(iv)) give money to the education organization it supports (though it is not a supported org) - for grants to faculty. All the rules on scholarships and grants appear to apply just to private foundations. Do we have to give the money to the college who will give it to the faculty? Or can we give it to the faculty directly? I think there would be income tax inclusion issues but can't seem to find any tax code regulations on this. Any advice woudl be appreciated.
    Thanks
