In the more than two decades that I was actively engaged in the business of seeking funds for not-for-profits, I never read a foundation guidelines that did not request proof of 501(c)3 status. I suppose that some grant-making entities just assume that the stipulation regarding IRS determination has become common knowledge among grant-seekers?
