| Re: Looking for studies on non-profit statistics

Tony's message stated many things I was tempted to touch on but did not. Adding to his list of questions and answers: Who would conduct such research, and for what purpose? Who would oversee it's validity, and with that in mind, how honest do you think some nonprofits would be? None want to be perceived as too profitable, while others dare not show things are as dire as they might be for fear of losing supporters. The report I highlighted for you was undertaken within a membership organization whose standards are exemplary, and yet they had less than 35% of the membership respond. Even if you were to buy an inclusive list of nonprofits in a region and mail each one a set of questions, how many would respond? I would hazard to guess it would be very few indeed. It sounds as if you have engaged a very tough topic for your proposed research.
