| Should I encourage non-profit coalition or alliance in my small town?
Posted by SkylightGrantWriters on 2/18/2009, 8:19 pm
Hi all! I am still building experience as a grant writer and have started doing some pro bono work in my small town to get to know potential clients and gain some experience. If I'm a rookie as a grant writer, I'm a complete ignoramus as a fund-raiser. It seems to me, though, that the local organizations would benefit from an alliance of some sort - sort of a Chamber of Commerce for non-profits. I'm working for the local performing arts school. We have a great representation of many branches of the arts in this town of 5000 people - the performing arts school, talented local artists and visual arts groups, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts, references, pointers, or crazy ideas about helping clients form alliances in order to succeed, particularly through cross-promotion of programs, joint ventures, or even just plain old sharing of information and resources? Also, while I am bending everyone's ear, if there is an industry-standard book to read on introductory fundraising, please let me know. I'm diving in and just doing what I can through volunteerism, but I'd like to read about it from a professional standpoint. Thanks! Lucy
