| Re: Deadlines

Thanks, Julie, for your thoughtful response, as always. I was thinking exactly along the lines of what you said about how program officers have more time to thoroughly review the proposals that come in early. My question actually arises from a conversation with a funder. I don't do that myself, as I believe the client needs to do the relationship-building on its own behalf. One of the Board members called a contact at a foundation and was told that funds for the February deadline are "locked in," but that we can apply for the next cycle. That is what prompted my question. Just wondering if we were too late even though the deadline is later this month. Then yesterday I started to work on an LOI that is due soon and saw that the funder is not accepting applications from new groups this year, a recent change. I believe that when they request an LOI, they prefer that to a phone call or other personal contact. So I wondered if we would have been considered if we had sent the letter in before they changed the policy. I see that you and Carl have had different experiences and that like everything else in life, the answer is "It depends!" Thanks to both of you for taking the time to respond. Sheryl
