As endowments follow market declines, the business of funding has, as everyone already knows, become increasingly difficult.
For this fiscally-sponored applicant, the market problems are just the latest in a series of problems I've experienced. I call them problems of exclusion. Before I even start I see: "Applications Not Accepted," "Contributes Only to Pre-selected Organizations," and "No Grants To Individuals."
By my tally (and the Foundation Center's staff) at one point over 60% of my choices were summarily excluded; reducing the Foundation Center's Directory to more telephone directory than a working resource.
How does anyone fiscally-sponsored or otherwise overcome this trend?
