| New Not for Profit: Is it possible to obtain funding at the outset?
Posted by Hbdoctor on 12/26/2008, 5:01 pm
Hi dear PND talk members! I am a full time medical professional working in USA. But at the same time I have a dream of setting up a successful Not for profit to work in the area of civic engagement ( empowering democracy, accountability in government functioning, etc) in India. For this purpose, the Not for profit has already been registered in Illinois and tax-exempt statuts is being filed. How do I start? Is it possible to get funding - national or international- even though my organization has not even started working in actual? The problem is how do I hire even very first resource person to work for the NPO when I do not have grants/ funds? Thus, everything seems to be hinging around the availablity of funds! I know this is a very basic question. But I always felt that a NPO should start working first, give some output (productivity) and then apply for grants or funds! This track does not seems promising when I realize that without grants/funds, even the initial the work will not sustain. How do i realize my dream without myslef leaving my full time job? Is it possible to raise a NPO given my circumstances! What are the first few things I should do in this regard? Thanks in advance! Kumar
