| Re: grantwriting and salary confidentiality

Hi, I agree with both of you but you're talking about the position, not the employee. I may be mistaken, but it sounds like our poster's problem is that he/she doesn't have access to the specific salaries of individuals. He also seemed to be talking about justifying expenses such as one might due in the budget narrative. I am not suggesting that he use a range, I suggesting that all positions in his organization have salary values as opposed to actual salary information. Certainly he would have to say, "Grants Coordinator at $30/hr. @ 37.5 hrs @ 52 weeks". This need not be the actual salary of the grants coordinator who is currently holding the position who might be making $31/hr. I read the post as a complaint against not having access to the specific salaries of his organization. If he's referring to salary levels or salary values, he can get that information from Salary.com. For his ED to withhold budgeted salary levels, however, is silly beyond contemplation. From my reading of his post, his ED is not being overzealous to withhold information about the salaries of current or past employees. Wouldn't you agree that such is very personal, confidential information? Carl
