| Re: grantwriting and salary confidentiality

Carl, In a number of federal and state grants, specific salary levels are in fact required. In fact, just recently, I prepared an application for a state grant that required a listing, by individual position (not by name) of the salary and the benefits. Typically, the budget narratives for these sorts of grants look something like "$XX.XX/hour x 37.5 hours week x 52 weeks/year = $YY,YYY." Of course, to include a current employee in a grant application, even if on a part-time basis, requires that the grant writer know their salary or wage information. In our agency, the grant writer is privy to this information, and held to the same level of confidentiality, as our fiscal department. Rex
