    Stairs,

Donations are made by people with a vested interest in the recipient--organization or individual. University alumni give to their alma mater because that is where they went to school. Cancer survivors give to the hospital that cured them because they appreciate the second chance at life. Arts patrons give to the museum that they regularly visit.

If I have $10,000 and I want to improve someone's life, I'm going to give it to someone that I know, someone I have met recently, or someone in my local community. I am going to give it to someone that I believe will use it properly. I am not going to give it to a complete stranger, regardless of how convincing their pleas might seem. For this reason, a web-based blog is perhaps the worst way for you to go about fundraising.

To put it bluntly: Why would I give you money? I don't even know you.

You want advice on how to succeed in fundraising. Start first by asking those people that you know personally, who are personally invested in your success and well-being. Develop a personal "Board of Directors" to help guide your effort. Enlist these people's support in finding others to contribute to your cause.

The Internet--and, in particular, a blog--is perhaps the most impersonal of all forms of communication. You have to first start with individuals, face-to-face. From there, with an established group of people who trust and support you, you can expand into other media.
