I have to agree with Linda's analysis of your situation. Asking money for yourself does not take courage, nerve or "chutzpah", maybe, but not courage. Bettering your own situation by earning funds takes courage. I am a cancer-survivor who helped myself by raising funds and awareness for a sheltered workshop for the mentally ill and volunteering as a member of the service and rehabilitation committee of the American Cancer Society. Both professional and volunteer involvements resulted in a great position with the Leukemia Society of America.
Whatever you do for others comes back to you ten-fold, in many forms.
