You must realize that when you started this message stream, you stated that you wished to know advice on how to reach your goal, and acknowledged a level of professionalism displayed here regarding fundraising...and yet, when Linda, who is widely acknowledged as someone who is "expert at fundraisng" has remarked about trends in funding, you have not accepted those remarks at face value, and responded that SHE was wasting time utilizing her attained skills on behalf of a reasonably assured stronger impact on individual lives within the foster system.

I honestly bristled at your remark regarding Foster homes, namely because I have fostered many children in my home, and don't consider "that these are the worst places on earth". Rather than just stating that subjectively, the numerous young people, now grown, who have lived under this roof still consider this their home, and phone me before their biological family much of the time. They would uniformly agree that where they had been was "the worst place on earth", and they truly were. So, naturally, my back goes up when foster homes are vilified. I do know the outcomes for foster youth, and they are very bad. In fact, as a grant writer, I have written numerous projects for foster family groups to do MORE for the kids than the state possibly could, and connects caring individuals with a child who needs someone to care.

That aside, the fact remains that you will not overcome the hesitation to give online to an individual. With your wealth of creative talent, mastery of communication, and expansive (although bleak) social personal history, you would make a truly insightful staff person working for any one of the nonprofits which serve the economically challenged, underserved, foster youth, or another area of interest for you. Like Linda, I would highly encourage you to put your talents to work in this direction, and with your passion for social justice, undoubtedly you will see your personal history bring enlightenment to current practices when you utilize them for positive change from within. The jobs are there...nonprofits make up over 10% of the national economy, and if you are without a degree, it won't be as much an issue. Nonprofits DO help people, and often hire based on what a person's personal value is, not their educational value.
