Catherine The building project has a budget...and you should note respective amount the grant would represent of that budget. In addition, funders want to know if the board has budgeted for a capital improvement (shows serious intent to complete the project). A building fund is shown in a budget as restricted (or temporarily restricted) funds. I just filled out a questionnaire for a funder which clearly stated: Budgeted Capital Donations, Expended Capital Donations. Sometimes a large non-profit will not keep restricted funds in the organizational 'accrual' budget document (day to day operational budget)...you probably need to ask a few questions of your client to see if you have all the documents you need.
