    Re: Partners

    Julie,

I think it's time for me to go back to my corner and do some quiet shadowboxing. Don't get me wrong. Your comments have been very helpful, but as you say, the task before me is enormous.

What is my title, you ask. I am merely a little editor, and the only one in the company. There is no staff for me to interact with, only a CEO who is extremely busy, and the rest of the people (25) work in manufacturing and shipping. Nobody here has the slightest knowledge of grantsmanship. The CEO sent me to a two-day school, and whatever I gleaned from that and from this forum is the extent of my knowledge. The nonprofit arm of this for profit firm exists only on paper. There is no board, no director and no track record. I think he sent me to the school on a whim, and without any idea of what is entailed in getting a grant, simply, “well, maybe this'll work.”

The message I am getting now, relative to our firm and a grant, is: “You can't get there from here.”

I think that our nonprofit sector will have to be populated, activated, funded and so on before we can even think of applying for grants. Isn't this so? Or can I start from ground zero and apply for startup money?

If I tell the CEO that our present course in this matter is an exercise in futility it will probably mean my job, because there will be little sense in continuing to apply for grants from our present position.

I must say I did enjoy the two-day workshop and the whole idea of grantsmanship. It was fun thinking big for a while!

    Thanks,
    Donaldo
