    NBS -- Wonderful Advice!

    Great, clear, articulate!
    Thanks!

I especially like your reference to working with folks who feel they "have to" respond to spelling, punctuation, wording issues when you haven't asked them to. You are right...people who can't contribute in one area will often step into a "contribution" in another. Rather than being upset with them, it will benefit everyone if we can find a way to thank them and work towards a better end with a "team" attitude.

I also work freelance on contract, and find that sometimes an upper-management person likes to step into a simple conversation with a program manager under them... when all I am looking for is the program manager's take on things. It can be difficult. I have resorted to copying every email and meeting scheduled to that person, and they can choose to participate or not...when they do I always follow up with an email saying "thank you for your input, and acknowledge how cooperative their program managers have been for working with me in a team effort to get a funding proposal in the mail. This also serves to reiterate how important my conversations with the Program Manager truly are.

Ego stroking, perhaps, but it goes a long way towards keeping peace rather than creating enemies unsought.
