It circumvents the grantmaker's eligibility criteria for a non-profit to pass through any large percentage of any grant to a for-profit entity; they risk damaging their own ethical reputation. I believe you will find tremendous skepticism and justifiable hesitation from any established non-profit. And no one has even brought up the question of Intellectual Property Rights of your research! Are you ready to reliquish or share the results of your research freely? This is the slippery slope you have been assigned to climb. My recommendation: run from this assignment as fast as you can.
