Mgret: I personally have never heard of tax-deductible portions being considered as part of a determination of someone's gift amount. People's tax issues are their own, as are your organization's costs for doing business when fund raising. The amount they wrote a check for is what you count as the donation amount. Tax receipts are a separate matter from annual reports. Your internal documents will want to decipher what is NET, but the check was a donation, and someone should be recognized at the amount of the donation for the purpose of an annual report. Secondly, regarding pledged contributions, you would only count contributions pledged that have been received, not those pending for next year or beyond. Does that help?
