I recommend pursuing "proposal" writing (Actual "grant" writing is really performed by those who sign the award checks, IMO.) as a side-line, just because there are so many established freelancers out there seeking additional clients and many NPOs do it in-house. You could add it to your repertoire of consulting services when you approach organizations about your computer consulting.
