| Recommendations for entry into grant writing as a career
Posted by CatherineDiane on 3/24/2008, 10:02 pm Message modified by user CatherineDiane 3/24/2008, 10:03 pm
I am quite interested in moving away from computer consulting and teaching into solely grant writing. My situation is ideal in several ways, but I am curious about one possibility. Do you think it would be wise to apply to work for a local grant writing agency? We have such a group who specialize in grant writing in my area. I have been thinking lately it might be smart to talk with them and see if they were interested in me working for them. In your opinion, do you think I am better off making my way by continuing to work as a computer consultant while I build my grant writing experience slowly? Or should I go ahead and plunge into grant writing and see if I can get work with this local grant writing agency? Just to help in your recommendation: my husband is our financial support. We don't depend on my income, so that isn't a huge factor. I'm sure my income would drop as I build a reputation and experience as a grant writer, but that isn't really a deal breaker. It would be great if I didn't lose any ground, naturally ! I'm trying to determine the best path to take in making this career change. Thanks so much for your advice! I know there are many factors and I would love to hear from you all on the various possibilities and factors to consider. Blessings!
