I agree entirely with Julie, but wanted to add one thought. You may want to make an appointment with the nearest Small Business Development Center (SBDC), typically found at a university but do a Google search online and you will find them. All of their services are free, (well, paid by your TAXES already, so at no additional cost to you!) They will very likely afford you a free hour with an attorney who can give you some sound legal advise. They typically work only with for-profit entrepreneurs, but because you are considering going that route, they will help you explore the idea. They also help you do all of the required paperwork to legally set up a business. Please do consider Julie's suggestion of housing this service within you non-profit organization, as it sounds substantially related to your mission. And if your nonprofit status has been dormant for any number of years, you need to make sure that you are duly registered with your state Bureau of Charitable Organizations or Attorney General's office and still have maintained your 501(c)(3) status with the IRS.
