| Re: Kellogg Foundation

Beckie: You have posed good questions, but your best answer will be from the foundation itself. In addition, you will note on their website regarding the "waiting to send any letters of inquiry or proposals until early in 2008", this statement refers to the fact that they are going through a major transition, re-identifying and re-prioritizing giving. They also note the new information will be posted on their website in early 2008--hence their request to wait. If waiting until the new information is posted is problematic, it would be best to personally phone the foundation and pose your question to a program officer who handles the region of Africa you are intending to fund. When you phone, ask for a specific amount of time (i.e. 15 minutes) to ask some pre-identified questions you have. If someone is not available, ask for a phone appointment. Make sure to write your questions down prior to phoning, and stay on point. If this program officer asks you to elaborate, then do so. Remember, these folks are employed by the foundation to assist those who wish to apply, and therefore will be as helpful as possible. It is best to remember as well, that you are representing your organization, and to be as professional and courteous as possible. Hope that helps.
