| Re: NPO Work - time to give up?

Rick, one of the very nice things about our shared profession in fund-raising is that there are needs and opportunities for persons with different skills, interests, and personalities. Writing proposals on a free-lance basis has enabled me to have a business that started small, but now includes international clients. It has also presented me with intellectual challenges and financial rewards, plus the opportunity to live abroad a few months every year. It also suits my personality. I like to work alone in my home in my comfortable jeans at my own pace. Being responsible for "dress-up" events with celebrities is not something in which I would excel, as I am sure you do. Achieving success on a consistent basis in helping clients secure major grants from foundations and corporations involves much, much more than research and writing skills. Your comments have inspired me to write more fully on this subject,as I am a veteran in this field and would like to share my experiences. But I cannot at this time. Alas, I have a proposal deadline to meet ;-) If the Muses sing to me after the first of the year, however, I will post some of my reflections on what I like to do, which is go on a treasure hunt for funds and meet the intellectual challenge of explaining to a foundation why my client deserves its support.
