| Re: NPO Work - time to give up?

Rose, I'm sorry you feel abused, but applaud your standing up now and saying no to the "opportunity" presented by the E.D. I want to suggest that you really FOCUS your volunteerism before you give up and before you accept another "opportunity." I'm a writer who writes grant proposals. I'm not a fundraiser, or an E.D. or a secretary, or an event coordinator. I do one thing. I never volunteer to do anything else. When I wrote my first proposal, I had to call three different npo's before they would allow me to volunteer to write a proposal for them. The first two were really reluctant to place their proposals in the hands of a novice. Two years later, both were calling for my assistance as a paid consultant. Focus on what it is that you want to do for NPO and then volunteer...put real parameters around your offer, e.g. "I'd like to volunteer to write a grant proposal," or "I'd like to volunteer to coordinate your upcoming event." I truly hope you don't give up. You've had some bad experiences but they're just learning blocks along the way. nbs
