| Re: Funding for Cultural/Arts Overseas Studies
Posted by RaionTaiko on 12/16/2007, 3:53 am, in reply to "Re: Funding for Cultural/Arts Overseas Studies"
Ms. Rodda, Thank you so much for your response. Naturally, I do not have much hope in finding grants that would be given to private individuals, since, as you have said, they must be given to non-profit organizations, or students who meet certain requirements. I am happy to clarify my situation, though, as you have requested. Taiko drumming is a rather traditional art, which one would not find as a course of study at a university. Not even in Japan. Although difficult, it might be possible to set up some sort of apprenticeship, but nothing that would look anything like a traditional student. What I was actually hoping for was maybe some leads on perhaps some private funding, not restricted by non-profit or student guidelines. Maybe even an individual sponsor of sorts. I realize the risks involved on the giving side. I mean, I could be anybody. It's frustrating. In several years, when I return to the States, I do hope to set up a taiko educational community type of school, which would likely be a non-profit group. Unfortunately, many of our expenses would come before we were established as a non-profit. I doubt this clarification changes a great deal in your original response, but if you think of anything else, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.
