| Statement of Work - pointers
Posted by Rose on 11/27/2007, 11:51 pm
I am likely securing my first consultant job with a foundation assisting them in coordinating a fundraising event. I must, of course, have a contract submitted to the state. I want this contract to protect both myself and the foundation in every possible way. Can anyone give me a direction to ensure I have cover the crucial aspects? I have downloaded a "statement of work" template from MS word that I plan to use. I will bill on an hourly rate, but will probably submit a monthly invoice for payment. I will include the "plus expenses" in that language. Primarily, that will involve permit fees. The BOD is committed to securing the venue and all donations. So, I will assist them with coordinating, newsletters, press releases and things of that nature. If a lawyer is the best way to go in this situation, I would like to incorporate that into the fee for the foundation (my hourly rate is well BELOW the average listed on AFP site). Is that unethical/unreasonable? Perhaps I should increase the hourly rate by $10 or $20 to offset the legal fees? I really cannot afford a lawyer (two kids in college and single income). So, I'm trying to figure out a way to get past that. Finally, I suspect the BOD will ask me to give them a ballpark on total number of hours (perhaps per week) I will commit to the project. Initially, I don't see that as many at all. As the event draws closer, clearly that amount will double. So, I really don't know what to tell them. Maybe I should base my billing differently other than hourly. I appreciate any thoughts/feedback.
