| statistics on year end giving

Does any one have statistics on how much giving is done at year's end? Is there an official average? I have been asked by some of my donors how important is it to do a year-end outreach effort--and I'd like to make the point that while they all are the kind of people who plan things over the course of the year, the majority of people wait until December. Any stats on that would be helpful.
