| Re: Internal vs. External Grant Writer
Posted by Aurelia on 9/23/2007, 4:03 am, in reply to "Re: Internal vs. External Grant Writer"|
I am a senior development consultant who specializes in writing proposals for clients and I would never consider myself a "hired gun." I make it clear to my clients that they are retaining my services not only for research and writing purposes, but for my advice. In other words, I do not work with a non-profit by simply writing proposals I am asked to write. There are a number of reasons for this and one is the non-profit may not be ready to apply for a grant and the second is that the organization may want to approach the incorrect funding source. My responsibilities are to provide guidance. As to the advantages of retaining an "external" writer, I have focused on writing and research during my entire career and know the field very well. Experience counts. Also, I am not distracted by other responsibilities or issues that may affect a person sitting in an office trying to concentrate on research and writing. I had a number of full-time positions as a proposal writer before establishing my own business and I am much more productive for my clients as a consultant than I was when I worked full time in an office.
