    Nancy - I don't know of any articles, but you might suggest that the Board could give the ED a paid 3- or 6-month sabbatical to refresh himsef/herself. During that period the ED should be required to do some research on a particular topic, e.g., identifying potential funding sources for the organization, or working on a new strategic plan, but with no involvement in the day-to-day running of the organization.
