Ronald,
I hear your frustration and know that it is real and reflective of the sum of all you've been through. Thank you for sharing your experiences with organizations established to help people in your circumstances. May they convict us all who have our own frustrations in the day-to-day operations and administration of these organizations to never lose our sensitivity and compassion for those we are serving. If you contact me through my e-mail, ocaldwell@rocconsultants.com, I may be able to assist you specifically where you are located, to contact those there who may be able to help you.
Federal dollars are getting to the streets and are helping many, many people everyday. It is not always easy or clear to those in need of those services how to gain access to them. But believe me there are programs and good people in them that can help you. If you do not meet program criteria for assistance when you walk in the door, they can help you get there if you are willing to work with them to help you. I hope you are willing to help yourself and others enough to do that, however long it takes. It may take 2-3 years, (maybe not depending on your particulars), and I know that sounds like a long time, but, rather than just passing, the long time will pass with you working on a plan to permanently change your circumstances and possibly enable you to help others.
The start up of your own organization is not a bad idea. Please do not discount it. We often experience circumstances that, those experiences can then be used to help others in those same circumstances. The Apostle Paul in a letter to the Christians in Corinth, Greece reminds us today: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4) I think you would be a wonderful and effective advocate for the homeless.
