    Re: school board seed money

Posted by Judy on 2/17/2006, 3:14 pm, in reply to "Re: school board seed money"

You surmise correctly. I have not found one school in the country in my 8 hour search yesterday who has seeded the fund. Also, as I said three of the foundation committee members are three voting school board members. I just can't see how this could be legal.

also, the committee does not have a cross representation of the community. It is a few community members, and then these three school board members.

There was no relationship to the board defined, no by-laws, no goals, no vision or mission statements written. I spoke with one consultant who only sets up school foundations, and she said they are in conflict. And when I asked one of these three board members about the community buying into this if the school board seeded the money, she said" Well I'm not going to contribute, it is for the schools, not for me." Exactly. And I asked her what made her think people were going to buy into this.
She said, we did the research, and they said they would. Isn't this mistake number one? You think they will, therefore they will.

I am concerned, because I believe this community has one shot, and so far, this is what they have come up with.

    Thank you for your response
