| Re: Can our non-profit run a business to raise funds?

'Social Entrepreneurship' has long been a part of many non-profit's financial sustainability strategy. Think of museums and their Gift Shops as a good example of a 'business' run by a nonprofit, and the many Thrift Shops run by various nonprofits. I have a disability services nonprofit client that runs a car wash business, an office cleaning business, and a bakery that relates closely to their mission of teaching job readiness to those with developmental disabilities. Tie your 'business' closely to your core charitable mission, and consult a tax attorney.
