I agree with all of Julie's advice. The only thing I would add is you should try contacting your regional HUD office as well. Since you seem to have internet access, you can visit the HUD site and use it to find the office for your state and area. You could then try calling them directly about their programs in your specific area, including services provided by specific non-profits. You may even be able to email them.
